Sim racing wheelbase

Without physical g-forces, the sim racing wheelbase becomes your main source of feedback - translating understeer, oversteer, and car balance directly to your hands. It helps you understand the car's rotation and refine your technique to drive faster.

What matters most is communication: does the sim racing wheelbase replicate the feel of a real race car? Can you sense the load-up and release of torque in corners during grip loss?

Direct drive sim racing wheelbase

A direct drive wheelbase is the main upgrade if you want clearer, faster and more realistic steering feedback. Unlike belt or gear-driven systems, the steering wheel is mounted directly to the motor shaft, so there is no mechanical loss between the virtual car and your hands. You feel grip build-up, kerbs, road texture, understeer, oversteer, and changes in car balance faster and more clearly.

At GPerformance, we stock direct drive wheelbases for different budgets, rigs and driving styles - from compact 9–12 Nm bases to professional 25–35 Nm systems.

Simagic Alpha EVO is a strong choice if you want high performance without overpaying. The EVO range covers 9 Nm, 12 Nm, 18 Nm and 28 Nm, so you can choose anything from a compact first serious direct drive base to a high-torque professional setup. Simagic focuses on ultra-low inertia, zero-cogging technology and smooth, responsive force feedback, which makes the Alpha EVO bases especially attractive for competitive sim racers who want strong detail, fast reactions and good value.

Conspit ARES CDR is ideal if you want precise feedback and fast response. The ARES 12 CDR and ARES 20 Platinum CDR use a 23-bit high-resolution optical encoder, a skew-pole direct-drive motor and the CDR quick release system. The result is smooth force feedback, low cogging, accurate steering input detection and fast torque response - useful when you want to catch slides, feel grip changes and drive consistently over longer stints.

Moza Racing is the accessible route into direct drive. The R9 v3 and R12 v2 give strong performance in a compact format, with 21-bit magnetic encoders, smooth feedback and good ecosystem compatibility. Moza is a good option for drivers upgrading from entry-level gear who want a proper direct drive feel, modern software, many wheel options and a more budget-friendly setup.

Asetek SimSports sits in the premium 18 Nm range, with a strong focus on response, build quality and precise signal resolution. The Forte 18 Nm wheelbase offers smooth and responsive feedback, a 22-bit encoder with around 4 million steps, 6.7 Nm/ms peak slew rate and RaceHub software. It is a good fit for drivers who want a powerful, sharp and cleanly integrated PC sim racing setup.

Simucube 3 is the benchmark choice for drivers who want the best possible force feedback and long-term reliability. The Simucube 3 Sport, Pro and Ultimate cover 15 Nm, 25 Nm and 35 Nm, with industrial-grade servo motors, 23-bit absolute angle sensors, a re-engineered control algorithm, Simucube Link Quick Release support and advanced telemetry-based effects such as ABS, RPM and road texture. Choose Simucube if your priority is maximum detail, smoothness, software quality and a professional-grade ecosystem.

Not sure how much torque you need? Around 9–12 Nm is already a serious upgrade for most sim racers. 15–20 Nm gives more headroom, stronger detail and a more demanding feel. 25 Nm and above is best for high-end aluminium rigs, endurance racing, professional training and drivers who want maximum dynamic range. For higher-torque wheelbases, a rigid cockpit is strongly recommended.

For a complete steering setup, also check our ready-matched wheelbase + steering wheel bundles - either professional bundle , or advanced bundle. These combine compatible direct drive bases with professional wheels from Simucube, BavarianSimTec, Ascher Racing and Simagic, so you do not have to guess which wheel, quick release and connection type works together. Some professional bundles also include Simucube ActivePedal Pro or Ultimate for a complete high-end steering and pedal setup.

GPerformance stocks direct drive wheelbases across every budget and skill level, from the Simagic Alpha EVO series (9–28Nm, from €450) through to the Conspit ARES range with its precision optical encoder and pro driver presets, and the Simucube 3 series (15–35Nm, from €1,277) — the current benchmark for force feedback realism, used by eSports teams, real-world motorsport organisations and top race drivers worldwide.

People often ask: Do Simucube direct drive sim racing wheelbases will make you faster? Are they worth it?

The answer is yes - but probably not in the way you might think. If you race at the highest levels of iRacing endurance, consistency and avoiding mistakes matter just as much as outright pace. That’s where Simucube stands out. The feedback is more precise - you can feel the car’s grip and balance more clearly, react quicker to oversteer or understeer, and recover before things go wrong. That awareness can save your race. When you trust your gear, you drive closer to the limit. That’s where the tenths come from.

And there’s another benefit: stronger force feedback keeps you mentally engaged. Unlike in a real car, sim racing doesn’t physically exhaust you - so a more immersive wheel helps maintain focus and avoid sloppy mistakes over long stints. Simucube wheelbases help you stay sharp, push harder, and race smarter. So are they worth it? You decide...

Reliability is also a key factor which is where Simucube direct drive sim racing wheelbases really are the best. The industrial grade engineering, motors and electronics are built to last and their software driver updates bring you just that little bit closer to the feel of a real racing car with every update.
